Something I Need to Know

December 14, 2007 / by slickster

In some circles this question poses many answers but in others there’s a void, a absents of promise and hope. Mostly I believe that our promise lies in the hands of many. I very much understand the necessity of positive thinking and the abundance of cherish things that await our needs. However my query rest in a thought that leads me to this place with a great absents of knowledge. It persists even through the night at times, and rest seems so far away.

There’s something I need to know.

What are gifts, and what is giving? Is “giving” more than we can know? Can we comprehend the true meaning of gifts and giving? Does possessing something that is desired or treasured by others pertain to more than we can imagine? Can the presents of “Favor” be concealed and delivered without a trace of understanding? Can we have anything without another?

There’s something I need to know.

In the corridors of misfortune and the accolades of emptiness there are souls that have nothing. From here it’s difficult to comprehend fierceness of what their reality could be. There can be no form of communication that can one see obscurity in it’s measurements that proves to be continuous. Is this place where many dwell a prison, or is it only a temporary abode that waits? And if they wait, what would be most necessary to bring comfort from this fierce woe?

There’s something I need to know.

I will not pretend to comprehend the complexity of this thing that’s on my heart, and I can’t say that it will ever go away. If this ache should ever subside I hope it’s because the pursuit of truth has been realized and fulfillment has taken its place, because I’ve come to understand what it means to truly give. Because I’ve learned that a gift never stops with the one that it is given, and because it’s only just begun its journey.

There’s something I need to know.

We’ve heard it said that everything is on its way to somewhere, right? Well, take a gift, and a sincere motive for giving, and tell me this. How far shall it travel? What could be the ends of the gift? Can it be that this gift can ride the waves of hope, and travel the plains of favor forever? Can it be that gifts are bigger than us? Could it be that a true gift can never be returned because of what it has become? Could it be that when we give a gift that its journey will only end when its mission has been realized and hope, joy, love, and fulfillment waits?

There’s something I need to know.

The thing that I really need to know is: If it wasn’t for people who love, care, and give, would there be any gifts? Is this our watch, and are we good stewards of giving, and do we give of our selves as we should?

True gifts aren’t found within a package, they can only be conveyed between hearts that reach for another.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

Vic

Great post, baby! i hope this reply doesn't PTKODOYB! I think you have opened a door or window of opportunity for all of us to take a moment to stop and think. To many, giving/gifts are something tangible, and so often are given with the thought of what will be received in return. I don't think those are truly gifts. They are bait. How sad that when people do things like sending Christmas cards, they determine their list by "who sent them a card last year". Giving from the heart is the easiest thing to do....because there is no thinking about it. A gift from the heart flows as freely as the blood in our veins....and knows no end....it will continue to course through this life, and will grow and become even bigger. It will touch so many more than just the one to whom it was given.
thank you for a beautiful thought!

The true gift of giving is not to those we know and love but to those we don't know and who are unloved.[HEART][HEART][HEART]
